Beware of Fungi!

Assignment:
Longman English
Unit 1, Activity 16, 18, 19
Unit 3, Activity 5, 6, 7

Challenging Sums 11-15

Today was not as bad as I expected even though I had a headache for the whole day. We started out with English. We were reading a poem about Filipino hand gestures and I demonstrated the gestures to the class. When I came to one gesture where I had to pout my lips (some Asians point using pouted lips), the class went, Eeeeeeee! (-_-")

I saw some boys demonstrating it among themselves. For example:

Warren: Hey, where is Elroy? There! *pouts lips at Elroy*
Elroy: Eeeeeeeeeeeee!

I can also see some of the girls secretly pout their lips. Hahahahahahahah!

Anyway, we also learned about past and present continuous tenses. It was quite easy. All of the Gs managed to identify them in the story 'How Rice Came to the Phillipines'. It was a funny story. When rice was given to the Filipinos by the gods, they thought the gods have given them worms!

Science was a revision of yesterday's Fungi topic and also introduction to Bacteria which looks cute.

Here is a picture of cute bacteria:

Kind of cute, isn't it?

The deadly mushroom, Amanita muscaria (fungi) also known as a toadstool:

Remember my Geniuses, never eat a wild mushroom. Just in case.

Just now, I made jelly on some petri dishes to collect bacteria from the class. Firstly I asked the class to run their hands through their hair and against their sleeves to gather bacteria and then press their fingerprint on the jelly. This Monday, we will check to see if there are any fungi growth or any bacteria growth by looking through a microscope.

I think Group Wisdom's jelly will have the most bacteria because I heard the boys wanted to make their hands as dirty as possible before pressing their finger (-_-") Silly boys. I hope they did not shove their hands down their shorts or dig their noses or something like that. That would be disgusting!!!

That is all for today. See you on Monday!

Faint

Absentees:
Travis, You Xuan and Jie Ling.

In the beginning of the day, I met up with some of the Gs, Divya [Science Rep], Sze Kaye, Nikhita, Gina, Song Lin, Elroy, Ad'n and Darren for soil cultivation at the Eco Garden. It was fun! 3G had our own plot of land where we can choose to plant any vegetable we want and I chose spinach. First we had to clear the weeds. Luckily we were given gloves so that part was pretty easy.

We then sprinkled fertiliser and then dug holes and put the seeds in. While digging, we saw the fat body of a worm slithering by! Some of us freaked out. I have to admit, it was pretty disgusting as the worm was fat, slimy and its skin was translucent. Gross.

Elroy screamed that "WE HAVE TO KILL IT WHETHER IT'S MALE OR FEMALE BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER COS IT'S BOTH!!!" I think he was just trying to impress us all by remembering that earthworms are hermaphrodites. OK Elroy, I am impressed.

After all that we all had lunch together and the Gs asked me whether I live in a bungalow and whether I am very very very rich. They even asked me how much I earn a month! (-_-") I announced that this was not a polite question and refused to answer it. When they heard this, Darren and Elroy made up their mind that I am poor after all and that I make one cent a day... (-_-")

Today was Composition Thursday. As usual, we went through the pictures first and the class and I came up with ideas and words to be put in the composition. One good word that came up was, 'grope'. I'm not sure who said it.

Nothing much that was exciting happened today. This must be because Miss Hidayah was in a lousy mood and did not go around to tease the Gs as much as I usually do. I think last week I gave you too much homework. Suddenly I have so many things to mark and have been feeling weak from lack of sleep. So tomorrow please try to behave especially well because I don't want to use up my precious energy and scream at you and then faint after that!

Science went OK. We started on the topic Fungi and somehow came to the conclusion that Bryan is a Fungi. Anyway, we were all amazed that fungi can grow almost everywhere and that it can be very deadly and at the same time, very useful. The world might very well end without fungi because it helps us decompose things that we do not want, but fungi can also kill millions because it can cause serious diseases.

Art was hard. Too much to do. Too little time. The P1s stole the Art Room from us. >:|

I am sorry for not collecting yesterday's homework. There was so little time just now!

Before I forget, I'm sure all of you know Uncle Botak, our security guard. If he shows you a sketch of a peacock, know that it was drawn by your very own form teacher (me). I heard he is giving the peacock away to one of you Lasallians. I hope one of the Gs get a hold of it instead of any other Lasallian. A Miss Hidayah Original belongs in the hands of a Genius. Uncle Botak and I are fellow artists so I will sketch things and he will help me shade it.

Alright see you tomorrow. There will be homework tomorrow of course because it is Friday.

Cold Under The Sun

Assignment:
English Activity Unit 3, Activity 8, 9.
Math 1 Exercise Book (For those who did not manage to complete their work just now)

Reminder:
For Art Lesson tomorrow, please bring:
-Magazines that are not read anymore [coloured]
-Drawing paper
-Poster/water paint
-Paintbrush
-Pencil and Eraser (of course)

At the start of the day, the Gs made me angry because some of them just refuse to behave!

The day was pretty simple since I simply revised Money with them and made them practise their addition and subtraction. I made them calculate mentally without the help of working and I was surprised they could do it without much trouble. Division Test was well done. Half the class had full marks!

While going around to check on their work, Ashley asked me a strange question. She said, 'Miss Hidayah, why is it that when I am in the hot sun, I will feel cold?'
I said, 'Are you sick?'
She said, 'No! Pei Xuan also feels like that!'

At this point I was puzzled as to why someone can feel cold under the very hot sun. So I went to Pei Xuan and asked her if this was true for her too and she said yes! So did Song Lin and Gina! Now I noticed that the girls who agreed to this strange claim are the girls who are cheeky in class so I asked Fernanda and like I predicted, she said, that there can be no way one can feel cold under the hot hot hot sun!

I was unsatisfied still so I asked Sindhuja, Sze Kaye, Anne, Jolyn, Divya and some others. Just like I suspected, only the cheeky and annoying girls like Jolyn agree that when she stands in the sun, she feels so hot then it's suddenly cold! More sensible girls like Sindhuja and Anne said that such a thing is impossible!

Crazy girls... :D I rest my case. One cannot feel cold under the hot sun... It is just wild claims by 3G's crazy girls... :D

English was fun. We learned about pronouns with relation to first/second/third person and also the use of 'like' and 'enjoy'. There was a lot of class participation.

Today I switched Elroy's and Bryan's place as Group Wisdom was not able to take Elroy's misbehaviour... Elroy is now in Group Hope so I Hope he learns his lesson. Bryan Buttman the World Conquerer was slightly upset but then he adjusted easily. [Did you know he wants to take over the world? And that he is a mutant?]

Anyway, I want to type of more things as a lot of things happened today but my computer is being used by my sister and my brother is demanding to have his computer back. So goodnight and see you tomorrow!

Long Days Ahead

Today's General Knowledge Question:
What is the difference between an African elephant and an Asian elephant?
[Answered by Song Lin: African elephants have larger ears than Asian elepants.]

I've always complained how we have so few periods on Tuesday. I think God heard my complains and that is why we had eight periods, one after the other, today! OK I love you Gs but eight periods with you really tire me out!

You may notice that I haven't been giving you homework this week. The change of timetable is the reason why! I have so much time with you that what is meant to be your homework, becomes classwork.

I would like to thank Christine, Jolyn, Gina, Jie Ling and Pei Xuan for coming in the morning to help me put up some of the presentation posters. These girls are sweet but very very annoying. They would start talking to me all at once about completely different things and I felt like my head was going to explode!

This is also true for most of you. You would come to me and ask me so many different things that I feel like I can faint on the spot. So don't be surprised if one of these days, I will truly faint.

Today, we had our Division test. I am pretty confident that there will be a lot of you scoring full marks because it was a very easy paper. If there isn't more than five scoring full marks, I will be very upset and when I'm upset, I type up worksheets and torture you with them.

However, some mad individuals in 3G claim that they love doing worksheets and that they can do it forever. These are the people who would cheer "YAY!!!" whenever I give out worksheets to do... (-_-") I do not understand you... You complain about homework but cheer when there are worksheets...

Then we had our animal sketches [SCIENCE] of killer whale [mammal], bald eagle [bird] and salmon [fish]. When it came to the bird, I noticed a lot of funny drawings. For example, Alex's looked like a toucan, Fernanda's wore a little hat with a flower [?!!?!], Leeroy's looked like a baby chick and Shawn drew one that looked like a turtle... How can a bald eagle resemble a turtle? I don't know...

To end this, I would like to state one good thing and one bad thing.
The bad news is two of our classmates embarrassed the class by being caught talking after recess by Mrs Goh. One of them was even a prefect. I was very disappointed. I have told you time and again, in 3G, we are among the best, not only in studies but in behaviour. Every time one of you misbehaves and get caught by other teachers, you fail the class and you fail yourself. You fail me. Be proud of being in 3G. Remember our identity. We are among the best. Act like it.

The good news is, one art teacher walked by our class and saw our art displays. She was impressed by it and told me about it today. I was very proud when she told me that your art work are exceptional (meaning very well done).

See you tomorrow.

Oh yeah,

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY DIVYA!

She had to go home earlier in the day because she had stomach flu. :(

However, she did leave the class Toblerone chocolates. So thank you, Div. Hope you get well soon.

On the bright side, I did not have to hear the class sing their horrible birthday song :D

Contagious Things Like Laughter And Diseases

Reminder:
Division Test tomorrow

Today's General Knowledge Question:
Name two differences between a moth and a butterfly. [ Answered by Ryan with the help of Fabien: 1. A moth's wings is spread when it lands, a butterfly folds its wing when it lands. 2. A moth has hairy antennae, a butterfly has slender and smooth antennae.]

Today was a slightly difficult day because Gina was cursed again by the laughter. Being a teacher, I am already an expert at suppressing laughter but I don't why my defenses were weakened just now and I could not help but laugh! This did not help the situation at all because when I laugh, the Gs find it very funny.

The second I look at Gina, I just cannot control myself from laughing! This happened right smack in the middle of spelling and dictation too!

So while waiting for them to line up for recess, I threw up my hands in defeat and said, The whole class is crazy!

That aside, we started on the topic of Money today. Money is unbelievably easy. It's not just easy to me, it's easy to most of the Gs. It is mostly simple addition and subtraction. I think it is a good time for them to brush up on these two as they are very careless. Even my best Math students make the silliest mistakes. I think we should start on Geometry or Angles. Math is not fun when it's not challenging.

We also learned of Imperatives. Words used in instruction and suggestions. As usual, it is a breeze teaching this to the Gs as they catch up pretty quickly. Within minutes, they can compose their own sentences with imperatives. Excellent work, people.

I notice however, that their spelling has declined. The boys, particularly. The girls are far better spellers than the boys. The girls also make lesser mistakes in Math as compared to the boys. I think this is because the boys fool around more in class while the girls are the ones who usually listen.

This is not entirely true of course. Whether they are girls or boys, they are still my Geniuses, which means they are outspoken, cheeky, crazy and somewhat annoying :D I mean that as a good thing of course. But in defense of the boys, they participate more in class and have more ideas. So girls, once you participate more, the boys will definitely be outshone!

That is all for today. One other thing. As NAPHA tests are tomorrow, the timetable will be affected. So I will see you for all periods except the last three.

Please remember what I told you about Hand, Foot and Mouth disease. It is highly contagious. I will conduct checks on your hands for ten days to ensure none of us are infected. Do your part. Wash your hands. Be clean. Be safe.

And stop sitting on your things! [That means you, Buttman. You know who you are.]
